Your Serendipity powered website is structured using many categories. You would like to summarize those entries on your front page according to each category, but the default Serendipity presentation merely lists those entries in date order - most recent first. What can you do?
Announcing Kinetic. Kinetic is a Serendipity template designed to present your content in much the same way as might be seen on a newspaper or magazine website.
The Kinetic core template includes 11 basic colorsets, numerous advertisement placement options, integrated navigation AND subnavigation, tabbed content, alternate date representations, and many other features. Additional Premium Colorsets are also available, with additional colorsets and features planned for future release. Kinetic requires a minimum of Serendipity version 1.4.
Kinetic is best explained by demonstration, so take a look for yourself at the
Kinetic demo. That site is MUCH more than a demo, and has a number of pages describing
features,
purchase options,
premium colorsets,
support forum and an
affiliate program. While I cannot provide backend access for security reasons, the template configuration options are discussed in detail in the
Kinetic tutorials.
Why the name Kinetic you ask? Kinetic energy is the energy an object has due to its motion. Content management driven websites, particularly those with regularly posted content are among the most powerful around because they are constantly moving forward. The Kinetic template for Serendipity harnesses the power of these websites and presents their content for maximum visitor impact.
Early last year, in my entry
Happy New Year! Now what? I wrote:
I have wanted to create a type of template that, while not entirely unseen in the blogosphere, is not common in the Serendipity community.... if it exists at all
This is that template. At the time, I had encountered a number of similar functioning templates across a number of different content management systems, but never within the serendipity templates repository. Using many of these other CMS solutions I found as inspiration, Kinetic slowly evolved. It has been an exhaustive effort spanning nearly a year. The result of that effort, however, is the most option-extensive, and powerful template I have ever produced.
The template is unique in many ways. One of those unique differences is that it is not free. While I provide hundreds of hours of support to serendipity users via the
s9y forums, I needed a mechanism which allowed me to provide the individual attention to Kinetic users, and a premium gateway seemed to be the logical choice. Offering a premium template also allows me to continue to support other open source developers and focus on improving my particular contributions to the s9y community.
I do, however, firmly believe that the modest price is minimal compared to the capability it brings to those using Kinetic. Kinetic purchasers will also receive free support, and free updates via the newly created
Optional Necessity Support Forums.
Kinetic is not likely to be the ideal template for every site, but if your site requires content organized and presented by categories, Kinetic may be the ideal solution for you!
